William is a Professor of Forestry at Clemson
University's Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and
Forest Science in Georgetown, SC. He received his
Ph.D. in forestry from Louisiana State University in
1988, but has been studying swamp ecology since
1973 throughout the southeastern US.
His main area of study is the ecology of bald cypress
trees which he uses a lot of in fashioning his toys. He
finds woodworking a way to relieve everyday work
stress and enjoys the smiles on children’s faces
when they play with his toys.
Another interest is photography. He has become the
unofficial photographer for Vacation Bible School,
Upward Basketball, and other children’s activities in
his church. Taking candid shots of children at play
and compiling presentations is a lot of fun and usually
results in many smiles and laughs.
